Graduate Student International Travel Policy

All graduate students traveling abroad for university-related activities must comply with this UNH Graduate Student International Travel Policy. The process outlined below is for graduate students traveling abroad for research, conferences, and practicums.

Important points to consider:

  • The following process should be completed a minimum of 30 days prior to departure.
  • It is a multi-step process that could take up to a week to complete.
  • Graduate students must adhere to the UNH International Travel Risk Policy prohibiting student travel in countries with U.S. State Department Travel Advisories of Level 3 and 4, unless a petition is approved by the UNH International Travel Risk Committee.
  • Completing this process enrolls students in the International SOS Travel Assistance and Insurance program and facilitates communication and support in the event of an emergency abroad.

Instructions:

  1. Click on this LINK and scroll down to where it says “Create UNH – Via Profile” to create an account using your UNH SSO (single sign-on) credentials.
  2. Once you create the account, please skip the part where it asks you to take a survey.
  3. Afterwards, you must click on this LINK to access the Graduate Student International Travel application.
  4. Click on “Term Information” then click on “Apply Now” under the Term in which you will be traveling.
  5. This will lead to the portal asking if you are eligible to apply—you can select “Start Application,” since you are indeed eligible.
  6. Complete the enrollment application and submit it.

Notes on completing the process:

  • Term Information – Please apply for the term that corresponds with the dates of your UNH-related international activity.
  • “UNH-related Activity Start Date/End Date” — if you are combining personal travel with your academic work, enter the dates only for the part of your trip that is university-related.
  • “Name/Phone/Email of U.S. Contact” — this could be your UNH professor, UNH advisor, or another U.S. based contact more directly involved with your international work.
  • Please fill out all the parts in the application marked with a red asterisk—these are required.
  • Hit the “Submit” button when you are done.
  • Monitor your email for a notification from UNH-Via inviting you to login to complete the required digital forms and procedures, including: Uploading a digital copy of your passport, registering your trip in the International Travel Registry, and completing the Travelers Health and Safety eLearning modules.
